Global warming would cause more storms and wind in northwestern Europe. That is what the scientists predicted years ago. But, new researches have busted this finding. The Dutch scientists now have started fearing from the other end. According to them climate change may result in less wind, turning the windmills of Netherlands idle, though they don’t have much explanations to support the reason behind the phenomenon. The characteristic of northwestern Europe’s climate has encouraged the rapid growth in windmills, mainly in Netherlands and Germany. It is windy. The breezy weather there provides for alternative energy, and windmill is the trademark for Netherlands. But, it is disappointing that the Dutch windmills saw declining energy production in the past decade. And ‘less wind’ is to be blamed for this. New scenarios about the Dutch climate predict a change in atmospheric flows, concluding that more moisture is coming from the North Sea in winter and more frequent droughts in summer. Rising temperatures is likely to increase summer rainfall, threatening an increase in river levels and floods in the low-lying Netherlands.
