Global warming is having its bite distinctly at China’s Qinghai-Tibet plateau. Glaciers covering the region are alarmingly shrinking by 7 percent a year and the environmental consequences may prove dire, Xinhua news agency reported on Tuesday.
The melting of the already melting glaciers across the ‘roof of the world’ has got accelerated with the rising temperatures. And this phenomenon eventually will turn tundra that spans Tibet and surrounding high country into desert! The consequences are reported by the agency as it quoted Professor Dong Guangrong with the Chinese Academy of Sciences.
