This country has a really fast economic growth, however, as far as improving and protecting the environment is concerned it lags way behind. It holds fast to its rank of the second largest producer of greenhouse gases after the US.

Its inexorable economic growth continues to fuel a ravenous appetite for energy. New plans call for the opening of a new power station every week most of them coal-fired.
The country’s own environmental overseer has blamed powerful business groups and short-sighted local officials for a frantic expansion of highly polluting industries.

Vice-Minister Pan Yue, admitted to the same, stating the major pollutants continued to increase last year and there was one pollution incident every other day on average.

Most rivers, seas and other water sources are heavily polluted or drying up, and China has some of the worst air quality and unsustainable levels of industrial waste and energy consumption.
