20 percent of Amazon’s 1.6 million square miles is already destroyed. Are you aware?

Greenpeace was recently heard accusing McDonald for speeding up the destruction of Amazon rainforest by using soybeans from the region to feed chickens used in Amazon rainforest by using soybeans grown in the region to feed chickens that are used in the European fast-food chains. The accusation was also directed at more than 30 supermarket chains and quick service restaurant companies in Europe.

Firstly, production of the soybean from the region is illegal as the required 80% forested land is not met as the forest gets cleared when cattle ranchers sell off pasture land to soybean farmers to meet international demands. Besides, it even employs debt slaves to clear away the jungle to prepare land for pasture and planting.
Scientists also warn that the deforestation reduces the area’s rich biodiversity and contributes to global warming as burning in the Amazon releases about 370 million tons of greenhouse gases into the atmosphere every year, about 5.4 percent of the world total.
