Canada Needs Lessons On Sustainability

Recently James Hoggan and Associates conducted a survey in Canada on the question of sustainability and how to address the issue. But astonishingly they found that :

53 per cent of respondents were not even familiar with the term “sustainability”.
70 per cent of respondents could not even define the term.

However, it was only after explaining the term to them that the Canadians could respond positively where it was found that :

About 9 out of 10 Canadians fear that over-consumption of the world’s resources threatens the health and welfare of their children – and lack of government leadership is the biggest cause of the problem.

More than 8 out of 10 would want stricter laws and regulations to support a more sustainable economy that protects and manages the country’s resources for future generations.

That brings us to the question :if a country like Canada can still afford to be ignorant on such an issue than what can we expect from lesser nations?
