Where has the state’s butterfly season disappear altogether? Is the weather of California changing? Yes, it is the city’s cold and wet conditions that have ruined its butterfly season.

For this time of year, butterfly populations are half of normal at most sites! Art Shapiro, a professor of evolution and ecology at the University of California, Davis counted 10 species and 43 individuals on April 18. It is on April 19 last year; he counted 21 species and 378 butterflies at the same site.

Shapiro said,

It has been the worst spring for butterflies of my 35 in California… There will probably be long-term repercussions, especially for species already in serious decline.
