Britain's swan population explosion threatens food supply for fish, birds…!

Great news for Conservationists! Though, currently under protection by the Royal Charter, the swan population in Britain is found to be increasing exponentially! But, as The Independent reported, the dramatic increase in the graceful, elegant birds’ population is reaching a point of becoming a ‘nuisance’, also threatening the ecosystem!

Since 1990, the bird population has increased by a quarter! This increasing graph is reportedly threatening fish, birds and other animals relying on vegetation for their survival.

But, the worries lay with the fact that the swans are still enjoying heavy protection under the discretion of the queen. Responding to the increasing problem, one ministerial source said,

There are more and more swans and they are really threatening biodiversity. We can’t do anything because they are heavily protected.

The Independent reported that it is not the increasingly mild winters Britain has been experiencing over the past decade that is helping these populations to burgeon.
