95 miles-long underground river found in Mexico

World’s longest underground river! Yes, a 95 miles long waterway is being spotted connecting two cave systems in Mexico’s Yucatan peninsula. A group of foreign cave divers discovered it while exploring the area near the Caribbean beach resort of Playa del Carmen.

They are yet to name the stretch. The divers believe that the waterway may also be connecting two other major systems, which if true will add more than 125 miles to its length, adding up to 220 miles!

Diver Steve Bogaerts, who helped find the underground river said,

It’s a bit of the Star Trek syndrome: the thrill of exploration, to go where no one has gone before.

With this discovery, the once world’s longest Palawan underground river in the Philippines and Vietnam’s Son Trach River is pushed down in the list of longest underground river.
