Since records began being kept in the 1860s, 2005 has been calculated as the warmest year on record in the Northern Hemisphere, the British scientists claim. More and more evidences indicate that human beings are to be blamed for the phenomenal increase in global warming, the United Kingdom’s Met Office and the University of East Anglia claims. During 2005, the average temperature in the Northern Hemisphere was 0.65 C above the average for 1961-90. It is the baseline against which scientists compare temperatures. It is the Northern Hemisphere Atlantic Ocean that has also been the hottest on record.
Though no measurements of average temperature can be completely accurate and the team’s calculations are subject to an error of about 0.1 C, the long-term trend is clearly upwards, David Viner, from the Climatic Research Unit at the University of East Anglia informs.
