Indonesia to see submersion of its 2,000 islands by 2030

indonesia 62
With the 89 centimeters rise in the sea level( as expected)in the costal of Indonesia, a country that consists of 17,000 islands, would submerge its 2,000 islands by the end of 2030. These apprehensions were made by country’s environment minister while highlighting the details of UN reports on climate.

The environment minister also said rice shortages are forecast for next year because of wild weather blamed on climate change.

However, his commitment to reduce the reliance on fossil fuels and switching to bio-fuels is highly praise worthy but statement that ‘We are still in a better position. Island countries like Saint Lucia, Fiji and the Bahamas would perhaps disappear,’ shows the lack of farsightedness as climate change is not a quandary of particular country but the whole planet is impelled to bear the drastic results of global warming.

Notably, a major U.N. climate change meeting is going to be held by the end of this year on the resort island of Bali. Delegates of 80 countries will meet to discuss that what action the world should take after the first commitment phase of the Kyoto protocol expires in 2012.
