South African sculptor creates giant Christmas Tree out of waste

As we are nearing Christmas, eco artists are gearing up to create inspiring artifacts to add more appeal to the celebrations. South African sculptor Christopher Swift has created a life-sized Christmas Tree out of discarded wooden cable drums, trashed fencing and LED light bulbs. Created for Waste to Art market, organized by the City’s Solid Waste Management Department, the sculptural tree projects itself as a reminder of country’s rich heritage.

While talking about his artwork, the artist emphasizes on the need for recycling. He further states that a change in mindset could trigger earth friendly practices like recycling, use of solid waste and energy conservation. When the festive season is over, the artist plans to donate the LED lights out of the Christmas Tree to the City’s Department of Housing.
