Maskull Lasserre carves amazing skeletal creatures from everyday objects

Really commendable is the intent that goes into the making of these scary works of art. Created by Montreal-based Maskull Lasserre, the anatomical sculptures of animals, humans, insects and other organisms owe their creation to discarded everyday objects such as doors, pianos, tables, etc. Currently being exhibited at an exhibition titled Fable at Centre Space gallery in Toronto, the wooden sculptures allow redundant furniture items to have an artistic afterlife. Visitors had a firsthand view of these inanimate artworks at the exhibition that ran through January 19.

The eco sculptures include a crow skeleton made out of a chair and axe, a rat carved into a door and rolling pin, a rhinoceros beetle coming out of a piano, a vulture skull made out of two hand planes and a human ear created out a violin and case.

According to Lassere, his art seeks to reclaim and reanimate lifeless objects, which, further, makes them credible enough to inspire eco-conscious souls.
