Jeweler recycles discarded watch parts into tiny mechanical insects

Last week we let you know about awesome jewelry pieces at Etsy created from repurposed, vintage watch parts. Now this time, we have similar stuff converted into something more remarkable than the Steampunkjunq range of jewelry. Conceived and created by a Chicago-based jeweler JM Gershenson-Gates, the Mechanical Mind jewelry series features breathtaking mechanical insects crafted from discarded watch parts.

The jeweler – a seasoned artist rather – took his childhood obsession of dismantling his toys to the next, refined level. Now, with a different medium, i.e. discarded watch parts, he has learned the exemplary art of transforming the discarded stuff into mindboggling insects-like shapes. The series includes miniature arthropods and insects made out of watch parts and outmoded automotive light bulbs.

The amazing menagerie signifies how intent, passion, precision and artistry can work wonders. Each of the “mechanical creepy crawlers” took about 12 hours (maybe more) at the minimum to come into actual existence. Collecting watch parts and then, putting them in order would have been an arduous task for sure; however, the artist painstakingly assembled watch gears, springs, straps and stems to bring the pretty unbelievable creatures to the surface.

Hit this link if you wish to lay your hands on any of these mechanical creatures.
