Guinness World Record attempt brings together 16,407 pairs of recycled trainers

Now that’s huge and inspiring as well! More than 16,000 pairs of recycled Nike shoes make one enormous canvas to portray our otherwise-apathetic-attitude toward recycling. Arranged by National Geographic Kids magazine, the mega installation was recently registered as a new Guinness World Record for the largest number of shoes collected for the Run for the Planet campaign.

Collected from families across America and celebs like One Direction, Amanda Beard and Taylor Swift, the unwanted trainers reached at the headquarters in Washington D.C in more than 50 huge boxes. According to the Daily Mail, National Geographic Kids magazine will send the athletic shoes to the Nike Reuse-A-Shoe program for further reuse.
