Gravity-defying Humus art installation asks us to stick to our roots

Stick to your roots – the age-old adage has taken a vertical flip as Sicilian-born, Rotterdam-based artist Giuseppe Licari morphs several tree roots into chandelier-like, gravity-defying sculptures. Displayed at a group exhibition titled Secret Gardens, Licari’s Humus installation allows bystanders and onlookers to have a virtual break into the netherworld, which lies below earth’s surface.

While walking through the suspended structures, visitors can see giant tree stumps hovering over their heads. Allegorically speaking, the Humus installation offers an insight into reckless human behavior which needs to be corrected. By suspending roots from the roof, artist asks us to implore and explore the very bases of our existence. Moreover, it’s a forceful statement on how we have been neglectful towards the betterment of the planet.

Amazing is the only world that can truly define the impressive allure of Licari’s Humus.
