Continent 'Collisions' gave birth to Australia!

After long suspicion that the Australian continent we know today is formed from pieces of land that were previously attached to other continents, it is found that — once a separate land mass to the rest of the continent –s Northern Australia collided into central Australia and got wedged underneath it to form the present continent! — according to researchers.

This phenomenon may have happened 1.64 billion years ago, Kate Selway, a geophysicist and PhD student at the University of Adelaide, and colleagues have estimated. According to her, when the lands collided, it gave birth to mountains that have long since eroded away.
