Ai Weiwei’s Forever Bicycles installation is a mammoth work of art

A giant bicycle installation put on public display at Galleria Continua, in San Gimignano, Taiwan, provides enough reason to bystanders and thinkers to believe why biking is the greenest mode of transportation at the moment. Conceived and installed by artist Ai Weiwei, the mammoth installation features 1200 bicycles stacked over each other on a raised platform.

Running through February 16, the first “large-scale solo exhibition” of the artist’s work also features several other sculptures, videos, photographs and installations. The bicycle installation in question is a three-dimensional artwork featuring bikes, which have lost their handlebars and seats to create a cohesive structure. The artist has successfully connected one bike to another by using wheels and frames alone.

The 100 feet high bike installation offers myriad views when viewed from different angles. Those who wish to see the gigantic bicycle installation in person should head to Gallery Continua where it’s being displayed through January 20.
