Adel Abdessemed, the Constantine, Algerian-born artist, who considers his family as the most powerful inspiration behind his creativity, is now residing in St Martin, Paris, where he is busy exploring the countless possibilities for taking his unique art to greater heights. Through his sheer art and imagination, he morphs everyday discarded or disused items and images into visually appealing artworks of myriad sizes.

Adel’s art is multifarious in its truest sense. Aside from transforming ordinary objects into sculptures and installations, he creates videos, photographs and drawings based on similar stuff. The conceptual artist has been quite a regular figure at galleries across the globe, namely David Zwirner, New York, Dvir Gallery, Tel Aviv and Christine König Galerie, Vienna.

One of his sculptures dubbed Hope utilizes a foundered dinghy that Adel discovered in the Florida Keys. Adel filled the dinghy with cars resin sculptures of black garbage bags to focus on the need for recycling. Equally appealing his sculpture, dubbed Telle mère tel fils, which portrays intertwined passenger planes. One sculpture that deserves a sure mention here is the Coup de tête which depicts French soccer hero Zinedine Zidane’s famous head-butt.
